Sziszi’s style is sometimes referred to as acoustic pop with a touch of country. She thrives in the rich landscape of three part harmony and catchy melodies.
I began my journey in music at the age of 5 when I started taking piano lessons. From there my love for instruments and music grew. I wanted to learn how to play every instrument I could from drums to french horn. Eventually I landed on saxophone and piano. During this time I was also in my school choir so singing came naturally. In high school I joined a vocal jazz choir that changed my life. We went to competitions around the state and even were able to see many professional vocal jazz groups perform including Take 6, The New York Voices, Manhattan Transfer, and my all time favorite, Groove for Thought. This high school group made me the musician I am today. I later went to a summer camp called Acappella Academy where I realized music was something I could pursue as a career. At this camp I worked with members of Pentatonix, Manhatten Transfer, and Groove for Thought. I eventually applied to Berklee College of Music and started my undergraduate in the fall of 2019. I have now completed my degree in songwriting as of spring of 2023.
While I was in my high school vocal jazz choir we won multiple awards at various vocal jazz competitions including first place at the Reno jazz festival. Once I arrived at Berklee I was pulled into the barbershop world where our quartet won first place in the northeastern district novice category. We were then invited to the international barbershop convention in Charlotte North Carolina. We were also interviewed on the local news and got to sing a song for them. While still at Berklee I was one of the directors of the Berklee Barbershop club as well as a vocal jazz group called Point of Departure. Another vocal jazz group I was in at Berklee was invited to the Jazz Education Network Conference in Orlando Florida where we performed for a ballroom full of Jazz educators and musicians. Our group also won a downbeat award for the songs we sang at the Jazz Education Network Conference and had previously recorded. During my time at Berklee I was also awarded a few wards for my outstanding vocal achievements.
I wrote this song as an assignment for a class I was in and really enjoyed the outcome. I plan to record this with a live band and release it on more streaming platforms. I haven't had the opportunity to record many other originals as of right now but they will be coming soon.
